Here’s What You Should Know Before Your Class
Trying Pilates Reformer for the first time can feel exciting — and a little intimidating. The machine looks impressive, the movements are precise, and you may not be sure what to expect. At The Studio Estepona, we love welcoming complete beginners, and we believe your first class should feel empowering, safe, and enjoyable.
Here is everything you need to know before stepping onto the reformer for the very first time.
1.You Don’t Need Experience — Just an Open Mind
Reformer Pilates is suitable for all fitness levels. Your instructor will guide you step-by-step, explain how the machine works, and adjust each exercise to your ability.
Think of your first class as a learning experience rather than a workout you must “perform” perfectly.
2.Arrive 10 Minutes Early
For your first session, arrive a little earlier so your instructor can show you how the reformer works, explain the safety basics, adjust the springs and settings for your body, and ask about any injuries or limitations. Those first few minutes make a big difference in your confidence and comfort.
3.Grip Socks Are Mandatory
For hygiene and safety, grip socks are required in all reformer classes.
They prevent slipping, give you better stability, and help you move more efficiently.
If you don’t have a pair yet, don’t worry — you can purchase grip socks directly at the studio.
4.Wear Comfortable, Form-Fitting Clothing
Loose clothing can get caught in the machine, so opt for leggings or fitted sports bottoms and a supportive top. Avoid zippers, buttons, or anything sharp, and choose neutral, soft fabrics to help you feel the movements of your core and alignment more clearly.
5.Hydration Matters — Bring a Water Bottle
We provide filtered water at the studio, but we recommend bringing your own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the session.
6. Expect a Full-Body Workout
Pilates Reformer focuses on core strength, mobility, balance, posture, and lengthening and toning the entire body. It’s low-impact but incredibly effective — you’ll feel muscles you didn’t even know you had.
7.The Machine May Look Complicated — But It’s Safe
The ropes, springs, and pulleys may seem complex at first, but the reformer is designed to support your body and improve alignment. Each movement is controlled, mindful, and guided. Your instructor will ensure you always feel secure.
8.Communicate With Your Instructor
During the class, speak up if something feels uncomfortable or unclear. We are here to help you move safely and confidently.
9. You Will Feel Amazing Afterward
Most beginners are surprised by how light, tall, and open they feel after their first reformer class.
Expect improved posture, a calmer mind, and a deep sense of body awareness.
